Courage in the Clouds takes viewers from the dawn of aviation and the Wright Brothers in the early 1900s to World War II in the 1940s when 28 women, the Women’s Auxiliary Ferrying Squadron, the WAFS, became the first female pilots to fly military airplanes. Cornelia Fort, the second member of the WAFS accepted in September 1942, had been a pilot instructor in the air over Honolulu on Dec. 7, 1941 when a Japanese plane flew directly at her tiny Interstate Cadet airplane, the beginning of the Pearl Harbor attack. Courage in the Clouds explores the amazing life of Cornelia Fort through interviews with two of her nieces, letters Cornelia wrote home to her mother, and U.S. Army Air Forces documents. Included in the streaming purchase is a free download – an Annotated Bibliography developed by Judith Stanford Miller, Courage in the Clouds writer and producer, from her years of research on Cornelia and World War II.
